A Chicken Wing Boil is a flavorful, communal meal often inspired by seafood boils but centered on chicken wings. It’s a great option for gatherings, combining savory, spicy, and tangy flavors with a medley of vegetables and seasonings. Here’s a guide to making it:
Ingredients
For the Boil:
• 2–3 lbs chicken wings (split into flats and drumettes)
• 8 cups water (or chicken stock for extra flavor)
• 1/4 cup Old Bay seasoning (or Cajun seasoning)
• 1–2 tbsp garlic powder
• 1 tbsp onion powder
• 1 tbsp smoked paprika
• 2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
• 2 lemons (halved)
• 4 ears of corn (cut into thirds)
• 1 lb baby potatoes (red or Yukon gold)
• 1 lb smoked sausage (sliced into 1-inch pieces)
• 1–2 heads of garlic (halved crosswise)
• 1 lb shrimp (optional, for variety)
For the Sauce:
• 1/2 cup melted butter
• 4–6 cloves garlic (minced)
• 2 tbsp hot sauce (like Frank’s RedHot)
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tbsp honey or brown sugar (for a touch of sweetness)
• Fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken Wings:
• Clean the chicken wings, pat them dry, and set aside.
2. Start the Boil:
• In a large pot, bring the water or chicken stock to a boil.
• Add Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Squeeze the lemon halves into the pot, then toss the lemons in.
• Add the baby potatoes and garlic heads. Boil for 10 minutes.
3. Add Other Ingredients:
• Add the chicken wings to the pot. Simmer for 15–20 minutes or until cooked through.
• Add the corn and smoked sausage. Simmer for another 5–7 minutes.
• If using shrimp, add it in the last 3 minutes to avoid overcooking.
4. Make the Sauce:
• In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
• Stir in the hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and honey/brown sugar. Remove from heat.
5. Serve:
• Drain the pot and spread the contents on a large tray or parchment-covered table for a fun, communal dining experience.
• Drizzle the garlic butter sauce over the top, garnish with fresh parsley, and enjoy!
Optional Add-Ins:
• Hard-boiled eggs
• Mushrooms
• Green beans
